Ingredients

Sea Salt – Sea salt is rich in minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, and can help replenish and nourish the skin. When dissolved in warm bathwater, it promotes gentle exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and revealing a smoother complexion. The minerals present in sea salt help maintaining skin hydration and balance. Additionally, the therapeutic properties of sea salt contribute to muscle relaxation, easing tension and promoting a sense of calm.

Epsom salt – Epsom salt, a magnesium sulfate compound, is renowned for its therapeutic properties. Epsom salt is known to aid in muscle relaxation and reduce inflammation, alleviating sore muscles, joint pain, and muscle cramps. . The absorption of magnesium through the skin during a soak can contribute to stress relief, as magnesium plays a crucial role in promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.

Activated charcoal – Activated charcoal is known for its exceptional adsorption properties. It acts like a magnet for impurities, toxins, and excess oils. When incorporated into bath salts, it helps draw out these substances from the skin, making it beneficial for individuals with oily or acne-prone skin. It adds a detoxifying and rejuvenating dimension to the bath experience, promoting clearer, healthier-looking skin.

Solubiliser – The most commonly used is Polysorbate 80. It is used to dissolve oils, such as essential oils, in water. However, it is not a natural product. If you want to go natural, you can find various natural solubilisers on the market, such as Symbiosolv or simply labeled as ‘Natural Solubiliser’ – these are often made from Lately I’ve been using Propanediol (1,3 Propanediol), which is a colourless and highly pure glycol derived from a sustainable and renewable corn sugar fermentation process. I like it because it’s naturally derived and very versatile to use in various skin care products as an emollient, humectant, gives product a nice feel, and of course as a solvent. It’s also not as viscous as other solubilisers, which is also a plus in some products.

Note it is important to use an appropriate solubiliser when adding essential oils to your bath water. Essential oils are not water soluble and do not dissolve in water. Instead, they form a fine film of undiluted(!!) essential oils on the surface of the water. Solubilisers disperse the oils throughout the water, so that you can use it safely and don’t end up with a nasty reaction!

Peppermint essential oil – Peppermint essential oil, is renowned for its cooling properties, and can provide relief for sore muscles and joints, making it an excellent addition to post-party or stress-relief baths. The inhalation of its aromatic compounds may also help alleviate congestion and promote clearer breathing. Beyond its physical benefits, the uplifting scent of peppermint essential oil can have a positive impact on mental clarity and energy levels, making it a popular choice for a revitalising morning-after bath.

Lemongrass essential oil – Lemongrass essential oil, known for its bright and citrusy aroma, adds a zesty element to the bathing experience, promoting a sense of alertness and vitality. The oil’s natural astringent properties can contribute to toned and revitalised skin. Lemongrass essential oil is also celebrated for its stress-relieving and mood-enhancing qualities, helping to alleviate tension and promote relaxation during the bath. Additionally, lemongrass is recognized for its potential antibacterial and antifungal properties, supporting overall skin health.

Overall, the invigorating blend of sea salt, Epsom salt, activated charcoal, peppermint, and lemongrass essential oils in these bath salts creates a revitalising experience, perfect for a morning soak after (too much?) holiday festivities. Sea salt provides a burst of minerals for skin revival, while Epsom salt eases post-celebration fatigue. Activated charcoal ensures a detoxifying cleanse, ideal for refreshing tired skin. The energizing aroma of peppermint essential oil stimulates the senses, and lemongrass essential oil adds a zesty touch, fostering mental clarity after the holiday hustle. In essence, these bath salts become a rejuvenating ritual, offering a luxurious blend of physical renewal and mental refreshment for a vibrant start to the day after festive indulgences.
